My Coast Limited is ready to put the Cornish coastline at people’s fingertips. The MyCoast app uniquely curates real-time weather, water quality, sea conditions and tidal data, integrated with a bespoke risk engine, developed in collaboration with the RNLI. Alongside this, it provides geolocated information on beach facilities and amenities, informing people’s plans, before they leave home, for their very best (and safest) trip to the beach. The MyCoast app is set to become an integral part of the beach users’ toolkit.

Developed by founder Jo Murray, MyCoast is a first-of-its-kind tool, bringing multiple data points together in one intuitive and handy app. Designed to demystify coastal destinations before arrival, MyCoast matches users up to suitable beaches based on search criteria. Using key safety and environmental information from the RNLI, South West Water, the Marine Conservation Society and other local authorities, this game-changing tool has the potential to dramatically reduce the number of avoidable incidents and accidents along our coastline.

“With MyCoast, users will feel free and confident to explore their coast, finding new favourite places, spreading economic support to local businesses and reducing congestion and environmental impact in overused areas.”  Jo Murray, MyCoast app founder

How this year’s shaped up

My Coast Limited female founder Jo Murray, has been busy weaving together an essential infrastructure for Cornwall. Harnessing the aerospace, tourism, conservation and local authority sectors, Jo’s created a tool with the potential to make an almighty impact. Over the past year, MyCoast has gained a large following both across the region and internationally, with the launch of the Cornwall-focussed app expected to kickstart a fast growth trajectory. Not only will this become a vital free tool for the public, but it will simultaneously act as a source of coordinated coastal management for local authorities.

2023 / 2024 Highlights

  • Involvement with a UK/Australia Space Agencies’ trade mission to Adelaide, showcasing the MyCoast app to some of the biggest names in the Space industry, and resulting in international interest and letters of support.
  • Development of a bespoke geolocation ‘Scout’ app to easily map facilities, amenities and public rescue equipment in any location.
  • Launch of our 60 beach MVP across all RNLI lifeguarded beaches in Cornwall, in June 2024.

Where they’re setting their 2024/25 sights

MyCoast is eagerly awaiting launch in the App Store on 28th June, with its first iteration rolling to include in-depth information on all 60 RNLI beaches in Cornwall. By the end of September, the team aims to gather the analytics they’ll need to explore and define the next steps in their roadmap. The long-term vision is to roll the app out on a county-to-county basis, proving its scalability worldwide. As a result of a productive trip to the UK/Australia Space Agencies’ trade mission in Adelaide, Spencer Gulf has now been identified as the first international trial location, planned for 2025/26.
