Working predominantly with vulnerable and marginalised young people across Torbay and Paignton, Sound Communities is striking out to develop skills, share music, and produce content, creating communities of young people who are confident, creative and resilient. Through creative digital media with a musical focus, the team aims to empower youth voices and improve aspirations, unveiling exciting new career prospects and boosting wellbeing.
Sound Communities believes that music has the ability to cut through social barriers and help individuals carve their own paths forward.
Sound Communities has been building on its previous successes while focusing on hiring new team members and organising its structure to expand operations throughout Devon. Beyond this, they’ve been forming strategic partnerships with other social enterprises that share similar values to collaborate and boost their impact. This year, the team secured an Innovate UK grant and is currently in the process of establishing a new events arm called ‘Sound Alive’. This new arm puts Sound Communities at the forefront of live events in Torbay, using cutting-edge projection mapping technology to create immersive experiences that will captivate and connect communities.
Over the next year, Sound Communities intend to scale up its provision with a welcome capital injection of funds to develop four more music spaces. These will help to meet the rising needs of young people wanting to access their services. The team will continue growing and developing to ensure that participants can achieve the best possible outcomes.
“The Devon Create Growth Programme has given us a bespoke package of support that is helping us to face our next period of growth with confidence. It has also introduced us to a network of creatives which has been inspiring and insightful.” Kate Rudman, Director
