Over the years, Studio Skein has crafted a diverse portfolio, showcasing a rich tapestry of buildings and spaces, from prestigious multi-million-pound housing projects to impactful small-scale community facilities. Whether it’s innovative retrofits and community-led developments or the creative repurposing of existing structures and materials, Studio Skein’s ambitious vision is establishing the blueprint for the future of architectural design.
Studio Skein is shifting from traditional architectural delivery to a business model focused on circular design-and-build services. Founders Hilary Kolinsky and Fleur Powell are working on their first 100% circular pilot, and collaborating with a forward-thinking client and team of consultants to measure cost, carbon, and social impact, supported by funding from Innovate UK.
To achieve their projected growth plans, the team’s next steps involve seeking partners and funders for pilots two and three, all while refining their approach throughout the process. They plan to initiate a local circular crucible network that nurtures mutual support among those working in the circular sector. Alongside this, they aim to target national circular networks and conferences to share their work and establish their reputation. Ultimately, Studio Skein’s goal is to expand and enhance its practice.
“The Create Growth Programme has been great for Studio Skein – not only for networking, mentoring and learning but especially for giving the structure and discipline to develop our new service proposition and test our ideas with a supportive audience. We’ve been exposed to new funding and investment opportunities and enter the next stage of business development in a much more informed and confident place.” Hilary Kolinsky, Co-Director
