Art Centre Penryn

An important part of Penryn’s arts and cultural fabric, Art Centre Penryn is a non-profit arts organisation.

Recently changing both its name (previously Grays Wharf) and location — relocating from the original Grays Wharf site to a pair of heritage buildings in Penryn town centre — Arts Centre Penryn connects people to inspiring creative practice, providing valuable creative experiences for all through our programme of activities. The overall vision is for Art Centre Penryn to become a welcoming place where people will feel valued and inspired, and a place where creative activities connect people through shared interests. At its heart, the centres will house a contemporary art gallery, working with the best in local, national and international art. It’s community involvement, including art rooms, artist studios and a series of arts-based and inclusive events, will send positive ripples out across the town and wider community.

How did Arts Centre Penryn evolve over the programme?

With funding from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, The Architectural Heritage Fund and The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Arts Centre Penryn has set about repairing and re-purposing the building to create a range of exhibition rooms, a community art room and artist studios.

Where they’re setting their 2024/25 sights…

Having secured funding, Arts Centre Penryn is ready to repair and re-purpose the School Room building with the aim of creating a community art room, artist studios, and several shared workspaces. Once these have been established, they plan to begin generating sustainable income from studio lets, running courses and funded activities in the art room. Arts Centre Penryn is also carrying out a feasibility study in the Chapel building, along with some light-touch repairs to create usable rooms for exhibitions, educational uses and event hires. Once this study comes back, the team will look into further funding applications for the next stages of design work to create a contemporary art gallery in the chapel.
