A faithful Jehovah’s Witness is forced to shun her own sister because of a religious transgression – and as the separation draws out, she starts to question the meaning of God’s love. Written and directed by Daniel Kokotajlo and produced by Marcie MacLellan and Andrea Cornwell.

Apostasy was financed by iFeatures and filmed on location in Greater Manchester. It premiered at Toronto, won the IWC Schaffhausen Filmmakers Bursary Award at London Film Festival alongside BAFTA and BIFA nominations, and was released by Curzon.

Daniel Kokotajlo came from a background in fine arts and is a self-taught director and writer from Manchester who was a Screen International Star of Tomorrow in 2015.
