Breaking In brings together early career creatives to tell you what starting out in the Creative Industries is really like.
The event series has been designed to help support you in entering the creative sector, whether you’re interested in freelancing but are unsure of where to start, or you’re applying for permanent positions and wondering how best to sell yourself on a CV.

Patrick Bayele
Patrick Bayele is a British-born theatremaker, filmmaker and writer of Ghanaian descent, currently studying Advanced Theatre Practice at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. He previously studied at the Identity Drama School of Acting, Queen Mary University and the Moscow Art Theatre School. His interdisciplinary practice weaves Catholic theology, African dance, poetry, political philosophy and devising together, to envision alternative futures of cross-cultural union. Having worked extensively alongside the National Youth Theatre as an actor, facilitator and Youth Trustee, he recently became a Visiting Lecturer at Middlesex University and is now the Artistic Director of The Avieli Arthouse; an arts charity which received a 2022 StART Enterprise Award grant from Royal Central. With the launch of its creative programme scheduled for summer 2023, The Avieli Arthouse puts God at the centre of the creative process to unlock new ways of telling urgent stories and working alongside marginalised communities.
Esme Green
Esme is a registered Dance Movement Psychotherapist (DMP) with experience in creating and holding creative workshops and therapy groups for a variety of underrepresented communities. After training as a dancer, she continued her studies to complete a masters in DMP leading her to work in a variety of settings including charities, mental health hospitals, refugee camps and SEN schools. Esme has recently founded her own project named Creative Voices Collective centred around mental health, the creative arts and community change, empowering individuals who have suffered from mental health challenges and supporting them to find their own creative voice within themselves and the community. Esme is now working towards turning Creative Voice Collective into a sustainable community interest company.
Caitlin Murphy
Caitlin is a Northern Irish silversmith, jeweller and maker. She is currently developing her practice at Bishopsland Educational Trust, following on from graduating from The Glasgow School of Art in July 2022. By using exciting techniques such as folding and weaving thin metal, Caitlin creates 3 dimensional objects that move between the wall and table. Elements of her larger scale works are often scaled down to become wearable versions to adorn the body.
Caitlin has been awarded funding for the past two years from the South Square Trust to support her journey. She has recently exhibited in The Goldsmith’s Centre’s Shine 2022 and at Clothworker’s Hall in London.
Jack Pepper
Jack Pepper (b.1999) is a composer, broadcaster and writer. He is one of the UK’s youngest commissioned composers and youngest-ever national radio presenter. He spent his teens writing music for the Royal Opera House, Classic FM and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, among others. He is currently working as a composer-lyricist on multiple musical theatre projects. As a broadcaster, Jack has presented the weekly cultural show on Scala Radio since the age of 19; past guests include Gary Barlow, Cameron Mackintosh and Renée Fleming. He has hosted specials for Magic at the Musicals, presents and curates the musical theatre show ‘Curtain Call’ for British Airways in-flight entertainment, writes for Gramophone Magazine, sits on the voting panel for the BRIT Awards and is an ambassador for national charity Music For Youth.
Olivia Williamson
Olivia graduated with a degree in Fine Art in 2020, where she focused on set design, installation, publications, print & photography. With a history of running projects, she secured funding from TORCH to create a film unpacking dyslexia, shooting 24 interviews about the nuances of a different brain wiring.
This community project went on to two international conferences, & is now featured as a key international resource on the NZ government’s Tertiary education site.
Olivia is also part of the founding team behind openended.design, a platform for interdisciplinary work across design, art, tech and culture. Following three seasons of a podcast series, openended.design launched the Technology & Design lab as part of the London Design Festival in 2022, its first live event.
Stepping into startups to learn about their disruptive potential she is currently working as a Chief of Staff at PreWarp (Fashion Data Startup).
