Meet Cornwall’s First Create Growth Programme Cohort

The first phase of Cornwall’s Create Growth Programme is officially underway!

In July 2023, this intensive, six-month support scheme kicked off with a launch event held at Newlyn Art Gallery welcoming each of the 15 creative businesses taking part in 2023’s inaugural cohort, Kernow Awenek Onan (Creative Cornwall One).

With a diverse range of subsectors spanning across film, fashion, design, music and more, we are confident that this first cohort will pave the way for many more successful businesses to come. We cannot wait to see the growth and success that these 15 businesses will achieve through this programme.

Introducing Kernow Awenek Onan (Creative Cornwall One):

Tara AsheBlock Design

Tara Ashe, Block Design

Block Design began in 2000, shortly after I graduated. I was keen to combine a passion for design with my engineering background, to create a range of functional, beautiful lifestyle products. Each day the studio is a collaborative hub of creativity, colour, and innovation. Every product begins life in the studio, situated above our workshop. We work hard to ensure we deliver the highest quality design and finish. Our aim is to bring joy, infusing life with colour, distinctive design and products made to last. We believe our business can be a platform for positive change and are pleased to say we have recently hit the submit button to begin the B-Corp accreditation process. We strongly believe in the B-Corp values and have been making tweaks and amendments to how we do things with the planet and sustainability in mind. We work with the best independent retailers in the world such as Eataly and Papier Tigre. Our products can be found in design stores and museums internationally including Moma and Tate Modern. We exhibit at trade shows in New York and London. We love meeting our stockists and catching up with other design companies.

Christine CowinGolden Wild

Christine Cowin, Golden Wild

Golden Wild is leading a revolution in marketing – repurposing it on a global scale to address the so-called ‘polycrises’ humankind is facing. Annual marketing spend will reach $4.7 trillion by 2025. That money is driving rampant consumerism, increasing the damaging extraction of natural resources, raising CO2 emissions and contributing to a decline in our mental health. Audiences are sophisticated and they are weary; overwhelmed by the constant bombardment of advertising, they are switching off. But their hunger for quality content continues to rise. This is a golden opportunity to repurpose marketing for good. We are an early leader in the use of unbranded, brand-funded stories in long formats, with real market value. We shift the narrative and lead positive activism for people and planet, leading to behaviour change on a mass scale. Golden Wild is the brainchild of and is led by Founder, Christine Cowin, a multi-talented Executive Producer with 25 years’ experience across TV, film, distribution, sponsorship and integrated marketing for blue-chip brands and rights holders, A-list talent and household names and multiple start-ups.
