Creative Enterprise is excited to announce the new Game Scale Up cohort for 2021/22! The 12 companies are embarking on a six-month programme that will equip them with the skills and knowledge to scale up their operations and take their business to the next level.  The participants will attend a series of masterclasses, workshops and networking opportunities with industry-leading experts. 

The Creative Enterprise: Games Scale Up is a prestigious 6-month programme, developed in partnership between Creative England and games trade body Ukie, to support games developers, publishers or support services. The programme has been devised with industry leaders for games businesses who are looking to develop and grow their business.

The studio prides itself on supporting an inclusive and diverse workforce and won Best Studio in the NI Game Awards 2019/20 in recognition of its efforts.

Brain and Nerd released its first title, Predestination, in 2019, and is currently working on two original new titles: Hortalius is an ambient exploration game with a shrunken protagonist who finds themselves lost in a back garden, and INCubator is a tongue-in-cheek startup management tycoon game.

Kaizen Game Works was formed by Oli Clarke Smith and Phil Crabtree, combining their twenty-eight years of industry experience to develop games with personality and driven by story interaction.

Kaizen’s first title, Paradise Killer, was released in September 2020 and received extremely positive player reviews and critical acclaim. Kaizen are now working on a new unannounced title.

Bringing the next generation of storytelling, Singer Studios creates brand new storyworlds that can be watched, felt and played around the world. Led by award-winning producer Eloise Singer, best known for Billie Piper’s critically acclaimed directing debut Rare Beasts, Express Delivery and upcoming film The Last Rifleman starring Pierce Brosnan.

Singer Studios has just been nominated for the Raindance 2021 Best Immersive Game & Discovery award for Best Debut with their interactive experience called The Pirate Queen. This multi-media narrative currently in production is produced through support from Creative England & BFI Screenskills. The studio specialise in developing media spanning across games, films, podcasts, documentaries and interactive media.

Sketchbook Games have recently released the multi-award winning Lost Words: Beyond the Page, an atmospheric adventure about a young girl aspiring to be a writer while dealing with the loss of her gran. Written by Rhianna Pratchett, the game is set between the pages of a diary and a fantasy land, and was nominated for an IGF award for Excellence in Narrative and won the Develop Star award for Best Innovation.

They have carried out XBox, PS4, and Switch porting work for published titles, and Unity upgrades for large mobile app studios who work with the likes of Disney.

In the past 12 months, co-founders Adam and Vicky led their team to release StarGazing, an ‘astronomically relaxing’ relaxing pattern-puzzler for iOS and Android, receiving a 4/5 Pocket Gamer review, and Ho-Ho-Home Invasion, a free festive game jam game made in under a month, to Very Positive reception on Steam and a front-page store position on itch.io.
