The Weld Space

Sparking a love for the possibilities of metal welding, The Weld Space has been redefining the craft since launching in May 2022. This award-winning hub, offers courses tailored for beginners and hobbyists, putting the emphasis on creativity and enjoyment rather than formal qualifications. From one-on-one welding lessons for those eager to master the basics or enhance their skills, to collaborative furniture-making courses in small group settings; the focus is on a safe and engaging teaching style, welcoming individuals with no prior experience to the beauty, skill and potential of the craft.

At the helm is Richard Evans, a passionate tutor, design graduate and skilled metal worker, who also runs RichCraft Furniture. Beyond its education programmes, The Weld Space features additional services like a bench hire scheme and team-building activities, creating a vibrant community for makers and creators.

How did The Weld Space develop over the Programme?

Richard Evans, the founder of The Weld Space, has successfully shifted his business model from in-person welding courses to a more scalable approach by launching a digital course product. This exciting new direction aims to provide digital learning resources for the UK, and potentially to expand into international markets, targeting recreational and hobbyist welders. By offering a digital product, The Weld Space can reach customers beyond the Southwest, positioning itself as the UK’s leading provider of recreational welding education in a market that currently lacks significant competition.

2023/ 2024 Highlights

  • Developing an online welding course offer
  • Extending The Weld Space’s reach to new audiences
  • The hiring of a new freelance contractor

Where they’re setting their 2025 sights

The future of The Weld Space is looking bright. The team’s applied knowledge and expertise through the development of their online course, they hope, will enable them to reach even wider audiences, snowballing into a loyal global community of hobbyist welders.
